PET CT scanner service: latest stakeholder update

NHS England has issued a stakeholder update to provide members of the public and interested parties with accurate information following a news report in the Southend Echo about the future PET-CT scanner service in South Essex.

Background information

Currently PET CT scans are provided in a mobile unit two to three days a week, at Basildon Hospital. However, a clinical view has been put forward that suggests Southend Hospital would be a more appropriate home for the service in the long term.

Service commissioners NHS England are looking at both options closely and have been consulting with people in South Essex about the future location of the PET CT service before a decision is made in February next year.
