NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chair.
Dr Arv Guniyangodage took up the position on April 1st 2016, taking over from former Chair Dr Anil Chopra who continues to serve as a Board member.
Dr Guniyangodage, who will serve a three year term as Chair, is a GP Principal at The New Surgery in Brentwood. He trained as a doctor at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, qualifying in 2003.
Listing cardiology and medical education as his special interests, Dr Guniyangodage is a GP Trainer and Programme Director. He is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.
Dr Guniyangodage has been involved in GP Commissioning since 2008 and served as Brentwood Locality Chair since that date. He became a member of the CCG Board when it was set up in shadow in 2012, prior to its formal establishment the following year.
Dr Guniyangodage said: "I would like to thank my predecessor, Dr Anil Chopra for his stewardship of the CCG at a time of great challenge for the NHS. He has worked hard to improve quality of services when finances have been tight and focussed on getting the most benefit to patients from the services in the area.
“As the new Chair, I take on similar challenges, which often vary between the different areas of the CCG. I hope to work in partnership with patients, member practices and wider stakeholders to meet them. I am grateful for the excellent team at the CCG who can help meet these challenges."
John Leslie, Accountable Officer for Basildon and Brentwood CCG, said: “I am delighted that Dr Guniyangodage will be bringing his expertise and talents to the role of Chair.
“I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Dr Anil Chopra, our outgoing Chair, for his significant contribution to not only this CCG, but the wider South Essex health system over the last 18 years. Dr Chopra will remain as a Board member and Locality representative.”
