Cheers! Alcohol-free activity for Older People's Day

Basildon and Brentwood CCG attended  the Older People's Day information event in Basildon on Friday 2nd December.

A team from the CCG ran a stand at Basildon's George Hurd Centre with information on the flu jab and Staying Well This Winter, the pneumococcal vaccine to protect those aged 65-plus from pneumonia, how to self care at the first signs of illness  and alcohol awareness.

Visitors Phyllis and June (pictured) kindly entered into the spirit of the day by taking part in an activity designed to test awareness of how much a unit of alcohol actually is.

Men and women should drink no more than 14 units of alcohol a week - the equivalent of six pints of average strength beer or seven glasses of wine - in order to keep their health risks low.

The challenge used juice and water as wine and spirit substitutes to demonstrate the amount you should pour in a glass.

The CCG  joined local organisations such as Age Matters, Essex Police, Fire and Rescue, Basildon Council Housing Services and others.
