A cold weather warning for parts of England, including Essex, has been issued by the Met Office.
The cold weather alert is a Level Three meaning average temperatures have fallen, or are about to fall, to 2°C and either widespread ice or heavy snow is expected.
The severe cold weather is expected to continue to for the next few days posing a health risk to vulnerable patients, that is the very young, very old or those with chronic diseases.
Residents are urged to look out for elderly and vulnerable relatives and neighbours.
