Dying Matters Awareness Week 8th-14th May 2017

Dying Matters 2017

Basildon and Brentwood CCG is supporting the Die Well Essex campaign as part of Dying Matters Awareness Week from 8th-14th May 2017.

We will be working with partner organisations across Mid and south Essex -  including St Luke's Hospice in Basildon and St Francis Hospice near Brentwood - to help prompt those all-important conversations about death, dying and bereavement.

This year the Dying Matters campaign is asking the question 'What Can You Do?' to get more people active in planning for dying and death and helping support those who may need it in times of grief and bereavement, be they friends, family or the wider community. Locally Die Well Essex hopes to start coversations and signpost people to support and services available locally.

We are asking you to support the campaign on social media by joining an Essex-wide Thunderclap

Thunderclap is a tool that enables you to support us by pledging a tweet or Facebook post at the same time that everyone else pledges one which ensures maximum impact. When you pledge your tweet, it will be sent automatically from your account on the first day of Dying Matters Awareness Week, so you don't need to do anything else after that.

We are posing the question 'what does celebrating life mean to you?' and asking you to share your favourite images of friends, family or pets who have died to start conversations about why dying matters.

Using Instagram please share your favourite images of people, places or things that celebrate life as well as acknowledging the reality of death. We are looking for photos of places where people have felt at their happiest before dying or images of people and things that celebrate life in the face of death. It doesn't have to be gloomy, although for some people the right image will contain sadness.

You can share your images via your own Instagram account – all that is needed is a sentence on what the picture represents along with #DieWellEssex or tagging @DieWellEssex.
