Heart of Pitsea is a 10-year local community project dedicated to everyone who lives, works or is educated within the defined Heart of Pitsea boundaries.
The project is run by a committee of volunteers, who are all residents within this area. Their local knowledge, combined with their enthusiasm, ambitions and skills come together to create a dynamic team that is passionate about Pitsea. It is down to them how Heart of Pitsea spends its funding.
Heart of Pitsea has been granted funding through the National Lottery Community Fund and this is managed by an organisation called Local Trust under a scheme called ‘Big Local’, one of 150 projects dotted around England.
Support is received from a number local of organisations including Basildon Council, NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group, Essex Youth Services and Basildon, Billericay and Wickford Council for Voluntary Services. Heart of Pitsea host the Dipple Patient Participation Group meetings in Pitsea Library.
Weekly projects are run, which are free to anyone who lives, works or is educated within the defined Heart of Pitsea boundaries. These include the ‘Incredible Edible’ gardening group, Youth Clubs for youngsters aged from 5-17 years of age and ‘Community Connect’, a social get together for adult community members.
An amazing group of young people take part in their Youth Forum and they decide how to spend their own budget, which funds activities for young people, including regular, free activity sessions for children at Pitsea Library.
Throughout the year they host quiz nights, health awareness events, seasonal holiday fun days and an annual community Christmas event, all in and around Pitsea.
The next Heart of Pitsea Community Health Market is at the Dipple Medical Centre on Monday 23 March 2020 from 9am-12noon.
Heart of Pitsea fund outside organisations to deliver projects within the Pitsea community, via their Proposal Scheme.
