In summer 2015, NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) launched its “Fit for the Future” community engagement programme, seeking people’s views on how the local NHS should adapt and change to meet the challenges of the future.
We asked you to tell us about the NHS and social care services that are most important to you and how we can best support you to look after your own health and wellbeing and that of the people you care for. We attended as many local community meetings as possible, held public discussion events and asked people to fill in a questionnaire to tell us what they thought.
Overwhelmingly you valued and used your local GP practice's services above all other services but often found it difficult to get a suitable appointment to see your GP. Many of you did feel that you had enough information and/or support to take control of your own health.
We believe that many more health and social care services could be delivered locally, with GPs taking on a stronger lead role in the care of individual patients. We want to use some of the money we currently spend on urgent and crisis care to invest in services which support people to maintain their health and independence and stay well longer.
Our Fit for the Future - July 2016 newsletter set out what you have told us about your priorities for local NHS services, and how this has influenced our plans.
In July 2016 the CCG ran a nine-week formal public consultation on a range of proposed changes to the local Service Restriction Policy (SRP) and Intermediate Care Services. This included public discussion events and online/paper surveys.
The changes we consulted on from July-September 2016:
Our local Service Restriction Policy:
Sterilisation Male and Female
Gluten Free Prescribed Foods
Travel Vaccines (Non NHS available)
In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Assisted Conception (existing treatment)
Bariatric Surgery (Weight Loss Surgery)
Toric Intraocular Lens Implant for Astigmatism
Simultaneous Joint Replacement (bilateral knee, bilateral hip, bilateral shoulder)
Pain Treatments (facet joint injection, hip and spinal injection and spinal cord stimulation)
Full details of the changes to our local Service Restriction Policy which we consulted on are available here
Please note the public consultation on changes to the local Service Restriction Policy (SRP) and Intermediate Care Services culminated in a Board meeting of the CCG on 24 November 2016. Details of the decisions taken by the Board can be found here
