News release: Extra public meeting on proposed changes to local NHS services

NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has announced an additional public meeting on proposed changes to local NHS services.

The CCG has scheduled another listening event in Brentwood in response to feedback from residents who attended an earlier consultation event at Brentwood Community Hospital.

The extra meeting is being held at Brentwood Baptist Church Hall in Kings Road. Brentwood CM14 4DR on Wednesday 17th August from 7pm-9pm.

The meeting will give people a chance to find out more about the CCG’s Fit for the Future formal public consultation which asks for views on plans to deliver more Intermediate Care outside of a hospital setting, in turn helping to increase people’s independence and reduce unnecessary hospital admissions. The CCG is also proposing changes to its Service Restriction Policy for a number of treatments, procedures and products which would no longer be available to residents in Basildon and Brentwood, or would be subject to tighter restrictions, except under exceptional circumstances.

Dr Arv Guniyangodage, Chair of Basildon and Brentwood CCG, said: “Basildon and Brentwood CCG is facing a £14million deficit in 2016/17 and we are carefully considering how we can make improvements and meet the needs of our population. As part of this we have identified a number of treatments, procedures and products where savings could potentially be made.

“We want to give as many people as possible the chance to find out more about these proposals, ask questions and share their views with us, and so, in response to public demand, we have organised a second public meeting in Brentwood to make it easier for them to do just that.

“We would encourage anyone with an interest in healthcare to come along to any of the meetings we have arranged over the coming weeks, to write to us or respond to our online surveys with their feedback so that the CCG Board can take all views into account before making a final decision on the proposed changes at the end of September.”

Full details of all the proposed changes can be found in the Fit for the Future section of our website where everyone is encouraged to complete the online/paper surveys and give their views.

Public meetings are being held at:

A number of important issues have been raised during the public consultation, including questions around gluten-free food prescribing, specialist fertility treatment, bariatric surgery, sleep studies and Intermediate Care.

The consultation will run until 12th September and Basildon and Brentwood CCG is listening to all views before a decision is made.
