Patients of Knights Surgery, 32 Knights, Basildon SS15 5LE are currently unable to use the surgery due to concerns identified with the structural safety of the building and instead, are being offered appointments at a nearby GP practice.
Patients scheduled for appointments at Knights Surgery are being offered appointments at Fryerns Medical Centre, Peterborough Way, Basildon SS14 3SS. Patients with appointments this week have already been contacted and offered alternative slots at Fryerns Medical Centre, and those with appointments w/c 11 November 2019 will be contacted by the end of this week.
The issues with the building were identified at an inspection by a structural engineer on Wednesday 6 November and to ensure the safety of patients and members of staff, a decision was taken by NHS England and NHS Improvement, East of England and NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to not open Knights Surgery to members of the public with immediate effect.
NHS England and NHS Improvement, and NHS Basildon and Brentwood CCG are working closely with GP partners at Knights Surgery to ensure that patients can continue to access primary care services from Fryerns Medical Centre. All possible options for a longer term solution are being explored.
Work is underway to update patients, with notices being put up around and outside Knights Surgery, the practice’s website being updated and phone lines due to be diverted to Fryerns Medical Centre. A letter to all households with patients registered with Knights Surgery will also be issued as soon as possible.
If they wish, any patients concerned are able to register with an alternative GP practice if they fall within the practice’s catchment area. Information about GP practices in the local area is available at www.nhs.uk or by contacting the NHS England and NHS Improvement Contact Centre on 0300 311 22 33.
