New Chair for Basildon and Brentwood CCG

NHS Basildon and Brentwood Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chair.

Dr Adegboyega Tayo took up the position on 1 April 2019 for a three year term,  taking over from former Chair Dr Arv Guniyangodage who continues to serve as a Board member.

Dr Tayo, who will serve a three year term as Chair, grew up in Nigeria and graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1985, before completing his postgraduate training in the UK. As well as training in General Practice, he has a specialist qualification in Ophthalmology.

He is a GP partner at the Robert Frew Medical Centre in Wickford. In addition to his work as a GP, Dr Tayo is recognised as a GP with special interest in Ophthalmology. He has been practising in Essex since 1991.

The National Health Service Long Term Plan is about making sure the NHS is fit for the future.

Locally NHS organisations are already working closer together. Basildon and Brentwood CCG (BBCCG) is part of the Mid and South Essex Sustainability and Transformation Partnership which is enabling our three main hospitals – Basildon, Broomfield and Southend – to work together as one hospital to deliver more specialised care.

No less important is BBCCG’s vision for the development of primary care networks where GP practices will work together with community, mental health, social care, pharmacy, hospital and voluntary services in their local areas. This will provide better access for patients to treatments.

Dr Tayo, who is married with two grown up children, said: “This is a time of great change in the NHS but also of great opportunities. This will have a significant impact on the way we work but it will also give us the ability to develop and design services that will benefit our patients and our workload.

“On behalf of the whole CCG, I will like to thank my predecessor, Dr Arv Guniyangodage for his leadership and stewardship of the organisation in the last three years.

Lisa Allen, Accountable Officer for Basildon and Brentwood CCG, said: “I am delighted that Dr Tayo will be bringing his expertise and talents to the role of Chair.

“I also wish to take this opportunity to thank Dr Arv Guniyangodage, our outgoing Chair, for his significant contribution to the health system.”
