A new Mental Health First Contact Practitioner Service is being launched across Basildon and Brentwood in the coming months.
The Mental Health FCP service is for anyone who contacts their GP practice and wants support perhaps because they are feeling low or anxious.
Patients will be able to have an appointment with a trained mental health professional so that they can be assessed and offered fast and effective support.
GP practices within the Basildon West Primary Care Network are the first to benefit from the scheme.
The Basildon West Primary Care Network is made up of:
• Noakbridge Medical Centre
• Kingswood Medical Centre
• Laindon Medical Centre
• Ballards Walk Surgery
• The Knares Surgery
From 22 March 2021 GP receptionists in Basildon West PCN, who are trained as Care Navigators, will be able to book patients in with a Mental Health First Contact Practitioner as one of the triaging options.
Mental Health FCPs are experienced in:
• Mental Health assessment
• Risk assessment and management
• Mental Health advice and support – guided self help approach based on Cognitive Behaviour Principles
• Medication prescribing and management
Consultations will be over the phone with the option of face-to-face appointments in the future. Appointments can be up to 20 minutes long.
The scheme is being rolled out to GP practices in all the Basildon and Brentwood PCNs over the next few months.
The FCP service is delivered by BBCCG’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) provider Vita Health Group.
